Glin Estuary Swim

A brave 35 swimmers took to the choppy waters of the Shannon Estuary, in Glin, on Saturday, July 25th, to raise funds for cancer research. We are very grateful to the swimmers, their families, friends and supporters who have so far raised nearly €14,000 for cancer research, with more to come!

A huge thank you must go to Maria Geoghegan who organises this swim every year. It has supported a multitude of charitable causes over the years and we were honoured to be chosen as this year’s beneficiary.

Of course, on the day, it takes a team of volunteers for an event like this to be a success and we are very grateful to the sea rescue crew that monitored the waters and kept all swimmers safe.

Our thanks to Nora Fitzgerald who led the singers, dancers and musicians on the pier and kept morale high and provided wonderful entertainment.

Thank you to Gerard Geoghegan and Benny for setting up. and to our bucket shakers, Ewan and Donncha Randall.

We are very grateful to all who helped in ensuring the day was a huge success with special mention to Elaine Connolly who manned the registration desk and ensured the day ran smoothly.

While not a race, congratulations go to Sinéad Walsh for leading all swimmers safely home.
